Rivers/Prior - The Tarnished Mirror of the World
Prior/Rivers is absolute love. There's not a lot
of fic for them--yet!--and in fact all I can think of right now is this
one over on Yuletide, which doesn't have any actual interaction between them, but is still wonderful.
I love that scene with Prior in the fugue state--"And now you can have your little blue-eyed boy back,"--and oh god what's the other one that sends me a bit special, I'm pretty sure it's in the second book, oh yes: where Prior won't let up on interrogating Rivers to the degree that he lets them swap places, and they have their little "I can't think of a single rule we're not breaking."/"I can," exchange, asdlkjhaajd.
I can't ship them in the traditional sense because I see Rivers as unshakably asexual whether by nature, circumstance, or (un)conscious choice, but I love the moments where Prior flirts with him or refuses to share with another doctor anything he's told Rivers. The indefinable nature of their relationship is one of the things that makes it so interesting to me.strangeumbrella
is right on with the "I can't think of a single rule we're not breaking"/"I can" business. I can picture the gleam in Prior's eyes as he says that and *GUH*.

Sorry for the random reply (especially since you posted your comment so long ago) but, as Rivers's biographer, I can promise you that he was not asexual. Yes, he was extremely repressed for most of his life but he wasn't in the slightest bit disinterested in sex. He was a homosexual and not particularly good at hiding it in certain circumstances (particularly with those who were also of that ilk- 'takes one to know one' I suppose). Layard- who was madly in love with him- descibed Rivers as 'fire' and was more inclinded to suspect the married A.C Haddon (who had two children!) of sexlessness than he was to suggest that Rivers was. Rivers himself also admitted to thinking of sex- and of dreaming of it- but, as he wrote in 'Conflict and Dreams', his 'natural reticence' would not permit him to write up the details (damn).
I have a slight problem actually - I moved journals and lost all my fics. I have no idea where half my favourite Prior/Rivers stuff is. In fact, right now I can only track down anotherusedpage
's Prior/Sarah(/Rivers-if-you-squint) which is very good and made me very mniserable indeed. But, no more...
